Our Story

House of Afrika was born out of a need for wider options than the High street offered; not only in style and design but also in sizing and fit. I struggled to find clothes that fitted my body shape, so on trips to Ghana, I would make some custom pieces that made me feel amazing and there my love affair for African print begun!

Back in the UK, I would be stopped in the street with compliments and enquiries about the dresses. This inspired me to make a capsule collection to share my love and when this sold out quickly,  the vision for House of Afrika was born!

Our goal is to make beautiful, wearable handmade clothes and accessories that can be worn routinely not just for traditional or cultural events but for everyone regardless of race or culture.

I love the fact that bold, rich colours and patterns can be used to create fabulous designs, from the contemporary to the classic and even giving the occasional nod to the trends of the day.

The clothing is hand-made in Ghana by a team of tailors and seamstresses and produced in limited quantities and in some cases one-offs, so you can be sure that you have a unique piece.

I hope you like what you see. Welcome to House of Afrika, a piece of my heritage.

With love,

Maria
